Cross-Media Production System Laurin XMP

In this context, Cross Media means low-cost, largely automated publication of documents for the Internet, CD-ROM and print media.

A pilot project for Bayer AG that was based on the CMS Laurin and XML element concept led to the development of Laurin XMP, which debuted in November 2001.

  • The demand: Develop the simplest possible and most cost-effective system to generate documents for subsequent publication in the Internet, on CD-ROM, and in print.
  • The difficulty: The documents are weakly and individually structured, and they’re printed in two columns (corresponding passages are printed side-by-side in two different languages).

The Laurin XMP solution generates the documents exactly as required.

  • The clever trick: Laurin XMP functions entirely without the professional typesetting programs (e.g. Quark XPress, Framemaker or InDesign) that other XMP systems need. All of the steps in the editor’s work occur either in the browser or in standard office software (MS Word®).

Last but not least, this simplification can result in significant savings of time and money.

The Laurin XMP module is available beginning with Version 1.8 of CMS Laurin.

Laurin XMP can also be implemented independently of CMS Laurin in client-side existing environments. To do so, the database used must be XML-capable (e.g. Oracle 8i or 9i with IFS).

Principle:

The editor works in a familiar environment (MS Word®), so training and "getting accustomed" times are brief.

The XML format is secure for the future and isn’t likely to become obsolete soon.

Complete system or module for integration into existing systems.
