On the one hand, people want caring for content to be as simple as possible. On the other hand, they also want the best possible design and function in their websites. Unless both of these demands are adequately met, dissatisfaction with existing content-management systems is the inevitable result.

That’s why a team of developers from cekom presented the concept of an innovative content-management system in January 2001.

• The basic idea is that content and functions can be "dissected," i.e. cut into convenient elements.

Furthermore, this concept makes it possible to use elements in various websites (e.g. Internet and Intranet), while only needing to take care of these elements at a single location.

The second requirement which the new system had to satisfy was the demand for the simplest possible operation – i.e. maximum usability – for editors.

• To achieve this goal, SmartAgents were conceived for frequently performed steps in the work. Each of these SmartAgents is intuitively understandable. Only a very brief training period is necessary. The client can already begin using the system immediately thereafter.

The third demand was optimal search engine visibility. In this field, CMS Laurin excels as opposed to many other CMSs. Despite of active pages, catalog output and online shop pages, all options of search engine optimization are present.

This unbeatable combination of powerful functionality and transparently simple operation prompted us to choose the name CMS Laurin.

Laurin was a legendary dwarf king who was invincible thanks to his magical belt. And whenever he wanted to make himself invisible, King Laurin simply put on his magic helmet. CMS Laurin is very much like King Laurin, because the editor only sees as much as he or she needs to see. Everything else remains invisible. Conversely, whenever they’re needed, a powerful array of functions is available – invincible functions that won’t surrender to even the toughest demand. Version 1.01 of CMS Laurin was up and running in May 2001. The system has been continually evolved and improved ever since.
