LaurinXMP cross-media production system

Cross-media stands for the cost-effective, largely automated publication of documents for Internet, CD-ROM and print usage.

A pilot project for Bayer AG, based on the element concept of CMS Laurin and XML, led to the emergence of the LAURINXMP cross-media solution in November 2001.

  • The requirement: to develop a system that is as simple as possible and inexpensive for publishing documents in the Internet, on CD-ROM and in print.
  • The problem: documents are structured weakly and individually, and possess a two-column layout in print (two languages side by side in register).

The LAURINXMP cross-media system can generate documents as required.

  • The solution: LAURINXMP dispenses entirely with professional typesetting programs like Quark XPress, FrameMaker or InDesign that are needed by other XMP systems. All editing operations take place either in a browser or standard office software (MS Word).

Not least due to this simplification, substantial costs can be saved.

The LaurinXMP module is available as of CMS Laurin version 1.8.

The LAURINXMP cross-media system can also be used independently of CMS Laurin in a customer's existent environment. In this case, however, the employed database must be XML-compatible (e.g. Oracle 8i or 9i with IFS).

Principle:

The editor works in a familiar environment (MS Word®), so training and "getting accustomed" times are brief.

The XML format is secure for the future and isn’t likely to become obsolete soon.

Complete system or module for integration into existing systems.
